If you saw the Brookline Tab yesterday you may have recognized some faces, human and canine alike! The Bed & Biscuit crew were part of the Tab’s discussion of upcoming changes to the zoning laws in Brookline. The photo shoot took place at the dog park on Dean St in Brookline. Founders Jon Cleveland and Adam Van Der Beek attended along with four very special dogs. Hound-mix brothers Parker and Jackson, Merlin the Catahoula, and Gremlin the collie-bulldog-actual-gremlin-mix. While the humans found it easy to pose for the cameras, the dogs enjoyed showing off their playful side. Parker and Jackson kept showing their tail ends to the camera while wrestling with each other. Gremlin wanted to roll her body in the mud and got so excited that when she went to lick Adam’s face she crashed into him and a bloody nose ensued (Adam’s not the dog’s). Merlin was caught off guard without the tie he usually wears for photo shoots, but after doing an impromptu lap around the park to sniff another dog, he was ready for his close up. Once the dogs settled down, great photos were taken. You can see the article HERE but must check out the hard copy to see the photo! We’re sure this won’t be the last time Bed & Biscuit makes the news!
Hello blog readers!! Mrs. Blog Writer apologizes for being absent lately; she was away on maternity leave. We would like to welcome Desmond Francis Van Der Beek, born on November 29, 2011 to Lexie and Adam Van Der Beek, into the Bed & Biscuit family.
Desmond’s older brother Rowdy is very excited to bring Desmond to daycare to meet all his friends! At three months Desmond has already made fast friends with Norman the Frenchie, who could not get enough of sniffing Des. Des also met The Nina, a pocket beagle, who enjoyed napping on his play mat, Kuma the Lab, who gave Des many face licks, and dozens of other curious canines. Desmond is very happy to be welcomed so warmly by all the dogs and can’t wait till he is big enough to play around with them (and maybe take over a walking route!).
We would also like to draw your attention to an important program called Fairy Dogparents that our very own Merlin the Catahoula will report on.
Merlin’s Culture Corner
Hello my culture mavens, today I want to share information about this amazing organization called Fairy Dogparents. This program is a nonprofit organization that helps dog owners in need. If a dog owner is struggling to pay vet bills or just to keep up the cost of caring for their dog, Fairy Dogparents can help with some of those costs. Fairy Dogparents takes applications and then reviews them to see if they can help dog owners. The main purpose of Fairy Dogparents is to help owners with the cost of care so that the owners do not have to surrender their dogs to shelters or have them euthanized. You and your dog can check out this organization at Fairydogparents.org. In addition to checking out the website you can also sponsor a dog, donate money or goods, or volunteer your time to help fundraise for the organization. We hope you all check it out!
IMPORTANT REMINDER! Our Zoning Board of Appeals meeting is Thursday, January 26th at 7PM, Brookline Town Hall.
The ZBA will make the final decision as to whether or not we can build our forever home in Coolidge Corner so let’s show them how important it is to the community!
Everyone’s support is greatly appreciated. Please let us know if you plan to attend so we can update you with details. Thank you all!
THANK YOU to everyone who showed their support last night, in person and in writing. We got a unanimous decision in our favor! While this is awesome, it is only a recommendation from the Planning Board to the Zoning Board. The official decision will be made at a second meeting on Jan 26th. We will need to see everyone there as well!
Our hugely important zoning board hearing is this Thursday, January 5th at 7:30PM, Brookline Town Hall. Any and all support will be appreciated more than we can say!
